• Write messy, read it clean

  Notes you scribble fast turn into neat, readable handwriting while you write, or in one tap after a Lasso selection. Lines keep their place, colour and size; anything we're unsure about, you fix before it's applied. Or turn it into text.

  Write it, add =, we'll handle the rest

  Turn on Math mode with f(x), write the sum with the pen or a finger and end it with =. VelNotes shows what it read; fix anything it misread, tap Solve, and the answer lands next to the equals sign. Copy the LaTeX if you need it. Write both sides, like 2+2=5, and it checks your answer without giving it away. For single-line numerical calculations.

• Cramped PDFs are no problem

  Margins too tight? Widen the page or add workspace beside it, so your working, notes and sketches fit with room to spare. You can also pick the paper size when you create a notebook or in page settings.

• Move between notebooks more easily

  Organize your workspace with notebook tabs. Hold the Home Screen icon to scan a document, create a notebook or write a quick note.

• On every device, with iCloud

  When iCloud Drive is available, sync is on by default: your notebooks and folders stay up to date on every device signed in to the same Apple Account. Check it from the cloud icon on Home; safety backup and data export are still there too.

• More typefaces

  Find handwriting-style fonts alongside the fonts on your device. Search the offline library by name or category and choose a style for your text.

• Formatting tools beside your text

  Tap text converted with Lasso or a text box. Change size, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, alignment and color in the attached toolbar; open its menu for more styles.

• Quiz yourself with study tape

  Draw tape over the answer and test yourself: tap to reveal it, tap again to hide it. Straight, freehand or box tape, in different colours and patterns.

• GIF Studio

  Pick the best moment from a video, make a looping GIF and drop it in your notebook. Your notes come alive.

• Apple Pencil Pro tool palette

  Squeeze Pencil to open Apple’s tool palette on a compatible iPad. Rotate Pencil to change supported nib orientation. Available controls depend on your Pencil and iPad.

• Time Travel videos, now free

  Replay how a page was written, change the speed and share your explanation as a video. Video export is now free and unlimited for everyone.

• Recording and live transcription

  See preparation status before recording and cancel if needed. Use live transcription on iOS 26 with supported devices and languages, then review and edit the transcript after stopping.

• My Writing profile

  Build a limited style profile on this device from confidently recognized handwriting. Reset it in pen settings without deleting notebook ink. The profile is not sent to a server.
